Beach and Associates (BA), carnival team out of 52 Bernard Street, Mon Repos, San Fernando, Trinidad, continues on a trajectory to use culture as a form of education apart from enjoyment, advised the head of their Kiddies band, Aneshia Beach.

For Carnival 2024, their presentation Tempo! We Going Down San Fernando, seeks to honor the city of San Fernando’s 35th anniversary portraying six key elements synonymous with San Fernando.

Catering to five to 17-year-olds, sections: Beach said Fishing on the Wharf, Chutney Finals, San Fest, Pan on the Coffee, Flying Kite on Sando Hill, and Calypso Fiesta, will not only be a lesson in the beauty of San Fernando but will take San Fernandians who migrated back to a nostalgic journey, explained Beach.

“Our presentation will be a robust depiction celebrating the dynamic spirit of Sando, and we are excited to showcase some of the highlights that make Sando pleasingly unique. Our goal is not to only share the city’s offerings with the world, but to instill a sense of the city’s vibrancy in the hearts of masqueraders,” stated Beach.

“The wharf, cultural events, recreation, tourist attraction, and entertainment spots will be captured in our sections and characters.”

BA was formed in January 2013 by head of the association Morgana Beach – Mas designer with 40-plus-years’ experience – who worked with Mas icons such as Stephen Derek, Leslie Bobb and Carnival Queen Anra Bobb.

Their debut presentation Ask Granny Bout, copped the NCC’s National Junior Parade of the Bands and San Fernando Carnival Competition titles, second place in the NCC’s Spirit of Carnival (all mini category) and third in St. Peter’s Parish Carnival Competition (medium), following which they grew to becoming the largest children’s band in Sando.

Last year the award-winning band placed third in the Red Cross Society Kiddies Competition, but “by and large,” said Beach, “we are consistent recipients of top-five prizes in both national and regional competitions, and our individual masqueraders have also won several competitions, nationwide.”

Beach said their mission is to entertain, inform and inspire the younger generation to appreciate and promote Trinidad Carnival though their Mas portrayals and other activities, but to ensure this is adequately fulfilled, they are hoping that the corporate sector and other Mas and child-development lovers, will honor their requests and come on board.

Registration is still open at the Mas Camp.
